Subject: Run for a Healthy World A Global New Year's Event Invitation

Hello!

We invite your Runners Club to join the Run for a Healthy World!

The 2008 New Year Run for a Healthy World is a new global event of "Fun Runs" and "Resolution Runs" for runners and people dedicated to the Millennium Development Goals to end poverty, and celebrating our commitment to a healthy world.

These runs are being organized to take place on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day January 1, 2008 in all international time zones.

The runs are being produced by a global network of runners, running clubs and people who believe in a healthy world, gathered in cites, towns and villages around the world.

Our website is: www.runforahealthyworld.org

We invite your Runners Club / Runners Organization to participate in Run for a Healthy World by organizing a local run for the New Year.

This initiative is simple, accessible, big and small.

We are asking people to get together and run on New Years Eve or New Years Day wearing white wristbands to show support for the Millennium Development Goals. The white band is the symbol of the global campaign against poverty.

Extreme global poverty is at the root of the gravest challenges facing the world at present - from HIV/AIDS to terrorism, from environmental degradation to regional instability. Its elimination is the single most important step we can take in creating a better future for the world.

The Millennium Development Goals are a set of eight time-bound targets endorsed in 2000 by the United Nations and 189 government leaders, along with leading scientists and development experts. If achieved by 2015, these goals can cut extreme poverty in half across the planet.

Run for a Healthy World is partnered with the Millennium Campaign, (www.millenniumcampaign.org) an initiative of the United Nations that informs, inspires and encourages people's involvement and action for the realization of the Millennium Development Goals.

These runs are locally produced by runners clubs and organizations and supported by activists and groups in the end poverty movement.

We hope to bring together people who enjoy running with people who are active in humanitarian efforts to end global poverty. For running clubs and groups this is a opportunity to meet up with new people in your local area and unite with runners around the world.

For activists and supporters of the global campaign to end poverty this is an opportunity to meet up with local runners and clubs that care about a healthy world.

The key thing about Run for a Healthy World is that local groups and activists have the freedom to take initiative, take charge, and produce an event that celebrates your local group efforts while being part of a worldwide promotional effort.

Many running groups with established New Year's Day runs and traditions will be supporting this initiative by incorporating white band runners into their own established runs and listing their run as a supporting event on our website.

We hope that many new runs and local traditions will be established by local groups, like yours, joining this global initiative.

The global project is being coordinated by two NGO groups, World Runners (www.worldrunners.org) and Human Race Day (www.humanraceday.org).

We have a volunteer production team coordinating our global outreach and promotion efforts working from several locations. We are using the Internet and the web to do most of our work.

We have a downloadable one-page flyer that describes all the basic information on our web site: www.runforahealthyworld.org. You can bring this flyer to your runners club to start the conversation on organizing a New Year's run.

Your clubs participation will make a big difference!

While some groups are organizing formal runs with registration, race numbers and a measured course, many clubs are just getting together in a public park for an informal run and celebration of the new year. The best thing is what works best for you.

Our focus is raising voices and awareness, not fundraising, and there are generally no fees to participate. Some participating runs may have a local registration or t-shirt fee to cover local event production costs.

World Runners is a registered charity (501C3) in the United States and does welcome donations for our global promotion expenses.

Our global website is designed to promote and track participation. All runners, runners clubs, people and organizations around the world are encouraged and supported to take initiative and participate.

In December this web site will start listing all participating events, make connections and promote them globally.

The results of our effort will be documented with a collection of digital photos posted on our global web site. We hope to end up with huge permanent online digital photo display of runners' and groups holding up their hands, proudly displaying their white wrist bands and spirit.

Our web site, www.runforahealthyworld.org will have more sections, such as media, press releases and T-shirt sales in the near future.

We have a basic 12 slide PowerPoint presentation and our one-page flyer translated into several languages available to send to all who request it by email.

Run for a Healthy World is designed to be an annually repeating event.
