The 2008 New Year Run for a Healthy World is a global event of "Fun Runs" and "Resolution Runs" for runners and people dedicated to the Millennium Development Goals to end poverty and celebrating our commitment to a healthy world.

These event are being organized to take place on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day January 1, 2008 in most international time zones.

It is being produced by a global network of runners, running clubs and people who believe in a healthy world, gathered in villages and townships worldwide.

Our goal is creating a new global platform and vital community dedicated to ending extreme global poverty and achieving the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

This is a global and local, voice raising, awareness and commitment-building initiative.

We are asking people to get together and run on New Years Eve or New Years Day wearing white wristbands to show support for the Millennium Development Goals. The white band is the symbol of the global campaign against poverty.

These runs are locally produced by runners clubs and organizations and supported by activists and groups in the end poverty movement.

Many running groups with established New Year's day runs and traditions will be supporting this initiative by incorporating white band runners into their own established runs. Many new runs and local traditions will be established by local groups joining this global initiative.

The global project is being coordinated by two NGO groups, World Runners and Human Race Day.

On New Years Day 2007 we produced our first New Year's day runs to establish the event and create a model that can be used to grow into a global annual event in many cities.

We have a virtual production team coordinating our global outreach, publicity and promotion efforts. These are all volunteers working from many locations all over the world. We are using network-centric methods and web-based tools to do most of our work.

Our global web site is designed to promote and track participation. All runners, runners clubs, people and organizations around the world are encouraged and supported to take initiative and participate.

This web site will list all participating events, make connections and promote them globally.

The results of our effort will be documented with a collection of digital photos posted on our global web site. Run for a Healthy World is designed to be an annually repeating event.

Our hope is that by creating this new global platform we will increase visibility for the growing global movement to make poverty history.

Our intention is to support a global and local networked community of voices against poverty.

Our common goal is voice raising, awareness and action dedicated to ending extreme global poverty and achieving the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
